July is fly­ing by, which means NPI’s anniver­sary is right around the cor­ner. August is the month when we cel­e­brate the found­ing of the North­west Pro­gres­sive Insti­tute, which came into being on August 22nd, 2003.

Since NPI’s decen­ni­al in 2013, we have com­mem­o­rat­ed the occa­sion with a grand sum­mer pic­nic, replete with local­ly sourced refresh­ments. This year’s pic­nic will be held on Sun­day, August 27th, 2017, at Red­mond’s Per­ri­go Park, begin­ning at 5 PM.

We are delight­ed to announce that U.S. Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Suzan Del­Bene will be one of our fea­tured speak­ers this year. Suzan has ably rep­re­sent­ed Wash­ing­ton’s 1st Con­gres­sion­al Dis­trict in our nation’s cap­i­tal since Jan­u­ary of 2013.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Del­Bene cur­rent­ly serves on the impor­tant and influ­en­tial House Ways & Means Com­mit­tee, where she has spo­ken out strong­ly against Repub­li­can attempts to destroy the Patient Pro­tec­tion Act. She has also been instru­men­tal in the for­ma­tion of many issue cau­cus­es in Con­gress, includ­ing the Wom­en’s High Tech Cau­cus, Inter­net of Things Cau­cus, Dairy Cau­cus and the Alu­minum Caucus.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Del­Bene has been a fea­tured speak­er at two of NPI’s Spring Fundrais­ing Galas: our sec­ond gala in June of 2010 and our fifth gala, held in April of 2013. She always has use­ful insights to offer about what’s hap­pen­ing (or not hap­pen­ing) in our nation’s cap­i­tal. We are delight­ed that she’ll be anchor­ing our short speak­ing line­up at this year’s Sum­mer Anniver­sary Picnic.

Also speak­ing this year is Man­ka Dhin­gra, a Senior Deputy Pros­e­cu­tor with King Coun­ty. Man­ka is on leave from her posi­tion because she is seek­ing to become the next State Sen­a­tor from the 45th Leg­isla­tive Dis­trict, which encom­pass­es neigh­bor­hoods in Red­mond, Kirk­land, and Sam­mamish, as well as the cities of Wood­inville and Duvall and adja­cent unin­cor­po­rat­ed precincts.

Andrew Villeneuve is the founder and executive director of the Northwest Progressive Institute, as well as the founder of NPI's sibling, the Northwest Progressive Foundation. He has worked to advance progressive causes for over two decades as a strategist, speaker, author, and organizer. Andrew is also a cybersecurity expert, a veteran facilitator, a delegate to the Washington State Democratic Central Committee, and a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps.
