July is flying by, which means NPI’s anniversary is right around the corner. August is the month when we celebrate the founding of the Northwest Progressive Institute, which came into being on August 22nd, 2003.
Since NPI’s decennial in 2013, we have commemorated the occasion with a grand summer picnic, replete with locally sourced refreshments. This year’s picnic will be held on Sunday, August 27th, 2017, at Redmond’s Perrigo Park, beginning at 5 PM.
We are delighted to announce that U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene will be one of our featured speakers this year. Suzan has ably represented Washington’s 1st Congressional District in our nation’s capital since January of 2013.
Representative DelBene currently serves on the important and influential House Ways & Means Committee, where she has spoken out strongly against Republican attempts to destroy the Patient Protection Act. She has also been instrumental in the formation of many issue caucuses in Congress, including the Women’s High Tech Caucus, Internet of Things Caucus, Dairy Caucus and the Aluminum Caucus.
Representative DelBene has been a featured speaker at two of NPI’s Spring Fundraising Galas: our second gala in June of 2010 and our fifth gala, held in April of 2013. She always has useful insights to offer about what’s happening (or not happening) in our nation’s capital. We are delighted that she’ll be anchoring our short speaking lineup at this year’s Summer Anniversary Picnic.
Also speaking this year is Manka Dhingra, a Senior Deputy Prosecutor with King County. Manka is on leave from her position because she is seeking to become the next State Senator from the 45th Legislative District, which encompasses neighborhoods in Redmond, Kirkland, and Sammamish, as well as the cities of Woodinville and Duvall and adjacent unincorporated precincts.
