Back in February, when we first announced the date for our 2011 Spring Fundraising Gala, we promised that more details about the event were on their way, including our speaking lineup. It’s taken some time to put the program together, and I want all of our loyal supporters to know that we didn’t make this announcement sooner because we try to put a lot of thought into who we ask to speak. We want our event to be as rewarding for our donors as it is for us.
That’s why we look for people who share our commitment to revolutionizing grassroots politics and believe in the strategic importance of reframing.
We’ve always been successful at finding great people. This year is no exception.
I am delighted this morning to reveal two of the trailblazing thinkers who will be speaking at this year’s gala: Peter Steinbreuck and Reuven Carlyle.
Peter is an architect and a environmental protection champion who served three terms on the Seattle City Council. In 2009, he was named a Loeb Fellow and awarded the opportunity to pursue independent study at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. He is now the principal of Steinbrueck Urban Strategies, LLC, providing consulting services for organizations that are trying to incorporate an understanding of systemic causation into their thinking on sustainability.
Reuven is one of the 36th Legislative District’s two state representatives. Last year, he distinguished himself by speaking out early and often against Tim Eyman’s unconstitutional and undemocratic Initiative 1053, becoming one of only a few Democratic lawmakers to vocally take a stand. Like us, he became extremely concerned that no effective opposition campaign was coming together against I‑1053. He is a strong advocate for open, responsible, and effective government.
In the coming days, we’ll be announcing who else will be joining Peter and Reuven at the podium. But if you’re as excited as we are about hearing from these two exemplary progressive leaders, we urge you to buy a ticket now. For a limited time, you can save a few bucks off the full price. But hurry — the early-bird rate will only be available until the next time we make an announcement!
