Kim Wyman wants emergency funding for prepaid ballot return envelopes statewide

Pre­paid postage on bal­lot return envelopes may not have been one of the Access to Democ­ra­cy reforms passed by the Leg­is­la­ture dur­ing this year’s incred­i­bly pro­duc­tive short ses­sion, but it looks like vot­ers might be get­ting it any­way — and in time for the midterms! — if Wash­ing­ton Sec­re­tary of State Kim Wyman prevails.

“Break­ing the Cycle” is a rel­a­tive­ly short doc­u­men­tary that fol­lows Jan Strømnes, war­den of a max­i­mum secu­ri­ty prison in Nor­way, as he tours Atti­ca Cor­rec­tion­al Facil­i­ty, a max­i­mum secu­ri­ty prison in New York. There are real­ly no com­par­isons to be made; it is all stark contrasts.

Rarely have we seen a pair of videos that so pow­er­ful­ly demon­strate the ter­ri­ble harm that comes from unchecked media con­sol­i­da­tion and con­cen­tra­tion in our coun­try, a high­ly destruc­tive trend that has been con­tin­u­ing unabat­ed for years, result­ing in few­er jour­nal­ists, few­er news­rooms, and few­er local owners.
