At the behest of its dic­ta­tor Vladimir Putin, who has declared that Ukraine isn’t a real coun­ty, Rus­sia began an inva­sion of Ukraine on Feb­ru­ary 24th, 2022, in an esca­la­tion of the Rus­so-Ukrain­ian War that began in 2014 when Rus­sia ille­gal­ly seized the Crimean Penin­su­la. The inva­sion is the largest con­ven­tion­al mil­i­tary con­flict in Europe since World War II, which end­ed (in the Euro­pean the­ater) in May of 1945. War underway: Russian forces have begun attacking Ukraine on Vladimir Putin’s orders

Excerpt: Ukranian officials reported that the capital, Kyiv, had been struck by Russian missiles. Unconfirmed reports suggested that Russian forces were moving against Kyiv's airport and other strategic targets within Ukraine.
