Joe’s says it is going out of business

The late 2000s recession has claimed another victim: G.I. Joe’s disclosed earlier today that it will go out of business after failing to find a buyer.

The chain, one of the Pacific Northwest’s best known retailers, operates thirty one stores in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, selling sporting goods. It filed for bankruptcy protection about a month ago, but only liquidators submitted bids.

G.I. Joe’s was originally founded fifty seven years ago in Portland, Oregon by pilot Edward Orkney, who began the business by selling surplus Army merchandise.
