Yes­ter­day, incum­bent Repub­li­can Sen­a­tor Jan Angel (R‑26th Dis­trict: Gig Har­bor, Key Penin­su­la) rocked the Wash­ing­ton State polit­i­cal land­scape when she unex­pect­ed­ly dropped her state Sen­ate reelec­tion bid, hand­ing Democ­rats a prime pick­up oppor­tu­ni­ty in a cycle that is expect­ed to be dif­fi­cult for Republicans. 

State Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Joe Fitzgib­bon (D‑34th Dis­trict: West Seat­tle, Vashon Island), announced today that after think­ing the mat­ter over, he has decid­ed not to seek the posi­tion held by his men­tor, State Sen­a­tor Sharon Nel­son, and will instead run for reelec­tion to the House.

Two Repub­li­can leg­is­la­tors in key dis­tricts announced sep­a­rate­ly yes­ter­day that they will be leav­ing the Wash­ing­ton State Leg­is­la­ture at the end of this year as opposed to seek­ing reelec­tion in what many observers believe could be a wave year for the Demo­c­ra­t­ic Par­ty not unlike the 2006 midterms twelve years ago.

King Coun­ty Elec­tions has just pub­lished updat­ed elec­tion results which include sev­er­al thou­sand new­ly tab­u­lat­ed bal­lots. With the Day Two count in, Man­ka Dhin­gra has expand­ed her share of the vote from 55.42% last night to 55.45% today, while Englund’s has con­tract­ed, going from 44.58% to 44.55%.
