Bing now powers state government search

The Washington State Department of Information Services announced this morning that Microsoft’s Bing “decision engine” is now powering the search functionality of access.wa.gov, the Internet gateway for Evergreen State government.

In a press release sent to NPI, DIS touted several benefits: faster response time to search queries, greater accuracy in results, and, best of all, the service is being provided at no additional cost to taxpayers.

“Bing will lead to more confident decisions and allow Washington residents to search and find services, government and community information to help make faster, more informed decisions,” said Microsoft’s Gail Thomas-Flynn, who serves as general manager of state and local government.

Sounds like a good deal. We’re glad Microsoft is putting so much money into building a great search engine… Google’s intrusive business practices are very disconcerting.
