Senator Patty Murray leads close race

With the early returns starting to come in the U.S. Senate race in Washington is very close with Senator Patty Murray leading perennial candidate and real estate speculator Dino Rossi. Murray leads with 663,304 (52%) to 625,681 (48.5%) for Rossi.

It is still early in the vote counting, but here are some positive notes for Senator Murray:

She has a commanding lead in King County. Jefferson County and San Juan County are also in the Murray column, which hurts Rossi's effort to pick up votes in rural Western Washington. And while Senator Murray leads in Pierce County, Snohomish County and Whatcom County, they are all very close.

We'll update as more results become available.
