Jessica Greenway making a comeback in Kirkland, after starting out behind

Don’t count incumbent Kirkland City Councilmember Jessica Greenway out just yet.

Though she started out some distance behind her challenger (former state legislator Toby Nixon) last night, Greenway has closed the gap today and now trails by only two hundred and ten votes. If this trend continues, she may pull ahead of Toby before the week is over, which would make Eastside progressives very happy.

As of last night, Jessica was behind by three hundred and twenty three votes with 25.85% of the city’s registered voters having cast ballots. Turnout increased to 30.22% today as King County Elections processed and tabulated more ballots.

Here’s where the race stood as of last night:

Council Position No. 4
Jessica Greenway: 48.39% (5,193 votes)
Toby Nixon: 51.40% (5,516 votes)
Write-in: 0.21% (22 votes)

And here’s where the race stands now:

Council Position No. 4
Jessica Greenway: 49.06% (6,168 votes)
Toby Nixon: 50.73% (6,378 votes)
Write-in: 0.21% (26 votes)

If Greenway can continue to narrow the gap by at least a hundred votes per day, she will soon be in a position to take over the lead.

Greenway’s other colleagues on the city council — embattled Councilmember Bob Sternoff and Councilmember Dave Asher — appear to be on their way to reelection. Asher has 65% of the vote and Sternoff has 52%
