Progressive champion Russ Feingold, a voice of sanity in the U.S. Senate, out in Wisconsin

With 48 percent of results in, it seems that Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold will lose his Senate seat. Feingold is behind by seven points, and that doesn't bode well.

The author of numerous bills designed to protect the democracy in our country, including the McCain-Feingold Act (campaign finance reform), Feingold has survived tough challenges before, including one in 2002. But this time, he couldn't persuade Wisconsin voters to send him back to the District of Columbia.

Progressive groups have been pushing hard for his reelection in the past few weeks, but their efforts appear to have been unsuccessful.

According to OpenSecrets, contributors to the campaign against Feingold include the Chamber of Commerce, who have contributed more than $750,000 to Ron Johnson's election bid.
