Tim Eyman to crash Costco’s election night party tonight at the Seattle Westin

Demonstrating once again that he is apparently incapable of organizing his own election night party for himself and the gazillions of supporters that he claims to have, everybody’s favorite initiative profiteer Tim Eyman has  (for the umpteenth year in a row), claimed another campaign’s election night party spot as his own… while dishonestly making it sound as if it’s really his party.

Classy, huh? See for yourself. Here’s the first few paragraphs of the email Eyman sent to his followers this morning:

RE: I‑1125’s victory celebration at Seattle Westin tonight — hope to see you there

Congratulations — working together, we’ve made the Initiative 1125 campaign a tremendous success (same goes for local initiatives in Bellingham, Longview, Monroe, and Redmond where local folks are fighting back against automatic ticketing cameras).

Join us at 1125’s victory celebration at the Seattle Westin (1900 5th Ave) tonight (other campaigns are going to be there too). We’ll get there around 7:45 pm, polls close at 8:00 pm and our victory speech will be given at 8:05 pm. If you’re able to join us, please shoot me a quick email.

If the Westin Seattle seems like an odd place for Tim Eyman to hold a victory celebration, that’s because it is. Not only is the Westin Seattle in, well, Seattle (which reliably votes against Eyman initiatives) it’s the place where the state Democratic Party holds its major election night party in even numbered years.

It’s also where progressive ballot coalitions sometimes gather to watch results. NPI’s live elections coverage has actually been run out of the Westin Seattle five times … in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

So why is Eyman going to be at the Westin? Because that’s where the party he’s decided to crash is being held.

Normally, Eyman crashes the party that’s being held by the highest-profile Republican running for office that year. For example, in 2009, he crashed Susan Hutchison’s party, and the year before that, he crashed Dino Rossi’s party.

But this year, there is no major Republican gathering, so Eyman has decided to crash Costco’s election night party… which is being held at the Westin Seattle. Costco, of course, is the force behind this year’s other destructive initiative, I‑1183, which would deregulate and privatize our liquor system at our communities’ expense. No doubt Eyman backs I‑1183.

Costco has not taken a position on Eyman’s I‑1125, but its longtime chief executive, Jim Sinegal, has; a few weeks ago, he donated $15,000 to Keep Washington Rolling to help defeat I‑1125. That makes Eyman’s decision to crash Costco’s party all the more bizarre. Wonder what kind of reception he’ll get tonight?
