From this photo, it is clear that Mount Rainier has a greater topographic prominence than K2. The mountain stands 13,210 feet (4,030 m) above its surroundings. On clear days it dominates the southeastern horizon in most of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area to such an extent that residents sometimes refer to it simply as “the Mountain.” (Photo and caption by Andrew Larsen)
