White House announces Kamala Harris’ schedule for August 2023 Seattle trip

Last week, the White House announced that Kamala Harris would be making her second trip to Seattle as Vice President on August 15th, 2023 (tomorrow).

Today, with the trip just a few hours away, the administration has released Harris’ schedule for the day. It consists of an arrival, an official event that is open to precredentialed media, a briefing, a campaign reception, and a departure.

The timepoints and itinerary are as follows:

At 9:10 am ET, the Vice President and Second Gentleman will depart from Washington, D.C. en route to Seattle, WA. This departure from Joint Base Andrews will be closed press.

At 11:10 am PT, the Vice President and Second Gentleman will arrive at King County International Airport. This arrival in Seattle, WA will be open to pre-credentialed media.

At 12:00 pm PT, the Vice President, joined by Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, will deliver remarks highlighting the Biden-Harris administration’s continued commitment to addressing the climate crisis with the urgency it demands while building a clean energy economy that creates good-paying jobs. These remarks at McKinstry will be pooled press, open to pre-credentialed media and livestreamed at WhiteHouse.gov/Live.

At 12:50 pm PT, the Vice President will receive a briefing on energy efficient upgrades made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate investments. This briefing at McKinstry will be pooled press.

At 2:05 pm PT, the Vice President and Second Gentleman will deliver remarks at a campaign reception. These remarks will be covered by an editorial pool.

At 3:35 pm PT, the Vice President and Second Gentleman will depart from Seattle, WA en route to Los Angeles, CA. This departure from King County International Airport will be pooled press.

At 5:45 pm ET, the Vice President and Second Gentleman will arrive at Los Angeles International Airport. This arrival in Los Angeles, CA will be closed press.

The Vice President / Second Gentleman’s arrival will occur after what we used to call the morning rush has ended, and the departure will occur around when the evening rush typically used to begin building, which should mitigate traffic disruptions stemming from temporary road closures.

For operational security reasons, the White House and Secret Service do not disclose what routes protectees’ motorcades will take. Therefore, it isn’t possible to advise which roads / highways will be closed, or when.

If you will be in Seattle between noon and 4 PM tomorrow, you can expect there to be some traffic impacts stemming from road closures.

NPI will bring you coverage of the Vice President’s visit to Seattle here on The Cascadia Advocate throughout the day tomorrow.
