Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff arrive in Seattle

The Vice President and Second Gentleman have made it to Seattle!

Moments ago, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff landed at Boeing Field to begin a quarter-day stop to celebrate the anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act and raise resources for the Biden-Harris reelection effort. Their itinerary includes an official event at McKinstry in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood (which will be livestreamed), followed by a campaign reception elsewhere in town.

Representatives of the Northwest Progressive Institute were at Boeing Field to witness the arrival of Air Force Two. The aircraft landed at 11:17 AM, and Harris and Emhoff were whisked away to McKinstry in a motorcade a few minutes later.

“A crowd of roughly fifteen people welcomed her, including Washington Governor Jay Inslee and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell,” pool reporter Ellen Dennis wrote.

“Wearing a sky blue-colored suit, Harris smiled as she disembarked AF2 and stepped into the bright sunlight during Seattle’s hottest week of the year so far.”

Now the entourage is on its way to stop number one.

In addition to addressing a crowd of local elected officials and activists, the White House tells NPI that the Vice President will also receive a tour of McKinstry.

The company is known being a leader in the design, construction, and operation of energy-efficient and net-zero buildings. A senior administration official says that McKinstry foresees a significant increase of building electrification and energy efficiency work over the next few years due to the Inflation Reduction Act

Warming up the crowd for The Vice President will be Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, United States Senator Maria Cantwell, Washington State Governor Jay Inslee, and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. NPI staff and contributors are here at McKinstry’s campus awaiting the beginning of the speaking program.

The Vice President and other dignitaries will deliver their remarks in a small gym decorated with flags and banners. One banner reads “Bidenomics.”

Another, positioned behind the main podium, reads “Investing in America / President Joe Biden — Vice President Kamala Harris / Seattle, WA.”

Crowd gathers for Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech in Seattle (Photo: Andrew Villeneuve/NPI)

It’s a very warm day in Seattle, so many attendees are cooling themselves with makeshift fans, or making trips to the perimeter of the room where it’s a little cooler. Several dozen reporters and photographers are here to cover the event, including members of our team. Until the speaking starts, people are catching up with each other and sharing stories of their summer travels or projects.

With respect to the content of today’s speech, the White House advises that “the Vice President will highlight the monumental impact that this historic legislation is having on communities across America through building a clean energy economy that creates good-paying, union jobs and ensuring access to clean air and water for all communities. She will also reaffirm the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis with the urgency it demands.”

“Tuesday’s celebration of the Inflation Reduction Act will be Vice President Harris’ second visit to Seattle since taking office,” the administration pointed out. “In October of last year, she was in town to announce new funding for electric school buses while touting the impacts of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”

NPI covered that event and you can read about it right here.

We’ll bring you a recap of today’s gathering at McKinstry later today.
