Join Peter Steinbrueck and Reuven Carlyle at NPI’s 2011 Spring Fundraising Gala

Back in Feb­ru­ary, when we first announced the date for our 2011 Spring Fundrais­ing Gala, we promised that more details about the event were on their way, includ­ing our speak­ing line­up. It’s tak­en some time to put the pro­gram togeth­er, and I want all of our loy­al sup­port­ers to know that we did­n’t make this announce­ment soon­er because we try to put a lot of thought into who we ask to speak. We want our event to be as reward­ing for our donors as it is for us.

That’s why we look for peo­ple who share our com­mit­ment to rev­o­lu­tion­iz­ing grass­roots pol­i­tics and believe in the strate­gic impor­tance of reframing.

We’ve always been suc­cess­ful at find­ing great peo­ple. This year is no exception.

I am delight­ed this morn­ing to reveal two of the trail­blaz­ing thinkers who will be speak­ing at this year’s gala: Peter Stein­breuck and Reuven Car­lyle.

Peter is an archi­tect and a envi­ron­men­tal pro­tec­tion cham­pi­on who served three terms on the Seat­tle City Coun­cil. In 2009, he was named a Loeb Fel­low and award­ed the oppor­tu­ni­ty to pur­sue inde­pen­dent study at Har­vard’s Grad­u­ate School of Design. He is now the prin­ci­pal of Stein­brueck Urban Strate­gies, LLC, pro­vid­ing con­sult­ing ser­vices for orga­ni­za­tions that are try­ing to incor­po­rate an under­stand­ing of sys­temic cau­sa­tion into their think­ing on sustainability.

Reuven is one of the 36th Leg­isla­tive Dis­tric­t’s two state rep­re­sen­ta­tives. Last year, he dis­tin­guished him­self by speak­ing out ear­ly and often against Tim Eyman’s uncon­sti­tu­tion­al and unde­mo­c­ra­t­ic Ini­tia­tive 1053, becom­ing one of only a few Demo­c­ra­t­ic law­mak­ers to vocal­ly take a stand. Like us, he became extreme­ly con­cerned that no effec­tive oppo­si­tion cam­paign was com­ing togeth­er against I‑1053. He is a strong advo­cate for open, respon­si­ble, and effec­tive government.

In the com­ing days, we’ll be announc­ing who else will be join­ing Peter and Reuven at the podi­um.
