We certainly prefer a full statewide household mailing of the General Election Voters’ Pamphlet, but of course will follow any policy direction that is included in the final budget that passes and is signed by the governor. We will vigorously do everything in our power to have as wide a distribution as possible within budget, including online, in libraries and other public offices, and on-demand. We have always stood for full voter education, believing that an informed and engaged electorate is crucial to self-government.

— State Elections Director Nick Handy, responding to the news that the State Senate’s proposed budget would axe the funding for mailing out the general election voter’s pamphlet. The Secretary of State’s office tells NPI that making such a move would require a constitutional amendment.
