President Obama on a hit parade
This week's accomplishments by the Executive Branch include:
- Signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law
- Strengthening the labor movement and creating a middle-class task force
- Getting Eric Holder confirmed as Attorney General of the United States
- Capping CEO salaries to a paltry half a million dollars for companies receiving "extraordinary public support" (also known as "government money").
- Signing the renewal of the State Children's Health Insurance Program into law
- Driving some mighty big nails into the failed philosophy of tax cuts uber alles.
Way to go, Mr. President.
I know some folks aren't happy about the second half of the TARP money going to these banks who have done basically nothing with the first half, but don't sweat it. Those of us who are paying attention understand that, galling as it most assuredly is, it's an important and necessary step to keep the banking sector (and everything else) from utterly collapsing.
