Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders today spoke at Liberty University’s weekly convocation in Lynchburg, Virginia, discussing the injustice of a society where most wealth is held and controlled by a wealthy few. Liberty University is a conservative, Christian university originally founded by the late Jerry Falwell.
“I am far, far from a perfect human being, but I am motivated by a vision which exists in all of the great religions – in Christianity, in Judaism, in Islam, Buddhism and other religions – and which is so beautifully and clearly stated in Matthew 7:12,” Sanders told the thousands gathered in Liberty University’s auditorium.
“And it states: ‘So in everything, do to others what you would have them to do to you, for this sums up the Law and the prophets.’ That is the Golden Rule. Do to others what you would have them do to you.”
