Installments in this series usually examine who has filed for key races in half-day intervals. Filing Week is an important part of the elections calendar in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. To appear on the ballot, office seekers must formally declare their candidacies with elections officials during Filing Week. Registering with the authorities responsible for the regulation of campaign finance — like the Federal Elections Commission or Washington State’s Public Disclosure Commission — is a separate process and does not entail securing placement on the ballot.
