Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 for short) is an infectious disease caused by SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV‑2). It is a respiratory illness that is currently spreading around the world, including in the Pacific Northwest. Scientists and public health authorities around the globe are racing to learn more about the disease, identify people who may be sick with it, and test/develop antiviral drugs to combat it.
