It’s confirmed: President Biden will be coming to the Emerald City next week, as initially reported right here on NPI’s Cascadia Advocate a week ago!
In an advisory distributed to the White House press corps, the administration disclosed that the President will be embarking on a West Coast fundraising swing this weekend. This will include stops in the San Francisco area and then more stops up here.
Here’s what was confirmed today:
President Joe Biden to Travel to California and Washington
On May 9, the President will travel to San Francisco, California. On May 10, the President will participate in two campaign receptions in the Bay Area. The President will then travel to Seattle, Washington and participate in campaign receptions on May 10 and 11.
Additional details to follow.
It doesn’t sound like any official events will be held during either leg of the trip. However, the President will still be at work in between his campaign stops in the Pacific timezone. He’ll still be briefed as he would be if he were at the White House, and he’ll probably spend some time on the phone, perhaps with other world leaders or members of Congress. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is sure to have his attention.
Word of Biden’s trip has been spreading since we published last week’s story, and a number of other media outlets — including KUOW, KING5, and the Washington State Standard — have kindly pointed their audiences to that report and recognized our reporting. Our thanks to everyone who has done so, it’s very much appreciated.
Many details about this weekend’s trip remain unknown — we will bring you more information as we get it. Do note, however, that we do not publish certain details even if we know them for operational security reasons. We are sticklers for thoughtful and responsible reporting, guided by our Code of Ethics, which you’ll find here.
First Lady Jill Biden will be doing her own pre-Mother’s Day West Coast fundraising swing — the White House advises that she’ll be in Portland, Oregon tomorrow and then Southern California on Friday, both for campaign events benefiting the President’s reelection campaign. On Saturday, she’ll deliver remarks at Mesa Community College’s 2024 Commencement Ceremony in Tempe, Arizona.
POSTSCRIPT: The most frequent question we’ve been getting over the past week is how to obtain a ticket to the Friday evening reception President Biden is headlining. Tickets for that have sold out, and it’s no longer possible to buy one. It is possible that either President Biden or Vice President Harris may return here before the election, however, so there may be another opportunity for those interested in supporting the Biden Victory Fund.
