Voters trimming several crowded fields of legislative hopefuls down to just two each
There were a number of crowded state legislative races in this year’s Top Two election. With initial results now in, we’re getting an idea of who will be eliminated and who will move on to the November general election. Here’s a roundup:
8th LD
In the 8th Legislative District, which includes most of rural Benton County, the greater Richland area and Kennewick, for the State Representative Position #2 race, Republican candidate April Connors has a slim lead of five hundred and twenty-nine votes over Republican candidate Joe Cotta. Democratic candidate John Christenson is 679 votes behind the leader.
17th LD
In the 17th Legislative District, which includes all of Skamania County, Camas and exurban Clark County northeast of Vancouver, for the State Representative Position #1 race, Democratic candidate Terri Niles leads with 45.6% of the vote, with Republican candidate Kevin Waters in second place with 22.5%.
Republican candidates Hannah Joy and Anthony Ho trail with 17.9% and 14.2% of the vote, respectively. For the State Representative Position #2 race, Democratic candidate Joe Kear leads with 46.2% of the vote, with Republican candidate in second place with 30.9%. Republican candidates Earl Bowerman and Justin Forsman trail at 12.3% and 10.5% of the vote, respectively.
22nd LD
In the 22nd Legislative District, which includes most of Olympia and Tumwater, for the State Representative Position #1 race, Beth Doglio leads with 52% of the vote, with Republican candidate Loretta Byrnes in second place with 19.3% of the vote. Republican candidates Sans Gilmore and Maria Siguenza, and Democratic candidates Sarah León and Anthony Keen, trailed at 11.4%, 10.1%, 4.6% and 2.5%, respectively. (Doglio previously represented the district in the House.)
For the State Representative Position #2 race, Democratic incumbent Jessica Bateman leads with 62% of the vote, with Republican candidate Kate Plager in second place with 30.4%. Democratic candidate Kevin Young trails at 6.6% of the vote.
30th LD
In the 30th Legislative District, which encompasses almost all of Federal Way, for the State Representative Position #1 race, incumbent Jamila Taylor leads with 55.3% of the vote, with Republican candidate Casey Jones in second place with 30.6% of the vote. Republican candidates Paul McDaniel and Paul McDaniel trail at 10.9% and 3% of the vote, respectively. For the State Representative Position #2 race, Democratic candidate and past representative for the 30th Legislative District, Kristine Reeves, leads with 44.6% of the vote, with Republican candidate Ashli Tagoai in second place at 36%. Democratic candidate Carey Anderson and Republican candidate C. Mark Greene trail at 14% and 5.4%, respectively.
35th LD
In the 35th Legislative District (which includes Mason County and a large portion of rural Thurston County precincts) for the State Representative Position #2 race, Democratic candidate Sandy Keiser leads with 47.2% of the vote, with Republican candidate Travis Coture in second place with 25.5%. Republican candidates Patti Case and Tiffany Sevruk trail at 17% and 10.3%, respectively.
39th LD
In the 39th Legislative District, which includes most of rural Snohomish County east of Interstate 5, for the State Representative Position #1 race, Republican candidate Bob Sutherland leads with 31.3% of the vote, with Republican candidate Sam Low in second place with 26.4%. Democratic candidates Claus Joens and Karl de Jong trail at 24.4% and 17.8%, respectively.
