Good evening, and wel­come to our live cov­er­age of Pres­i­dent Barack Oba­ma’s final State of the Union address. The speech is being broad­cast by all major broad­cast and cable news net­works, and you can also watch it at WhiteHouse.gov.

Pres­i­dent Oba­ma is cur­rent­ly mak­ing his way to the U.S. Capi­tol via motor­cade, and the speech is sched­uled to begin in just a few moments’ time (6 PM Pacif­ic, 9 PM East­ern). Once it begins, we will start bring­ing you live analy­sis and com­men­tary, focus­ing par­tic­u­lar­ly on the fram­ing of the speech.

  1. “We spend more on our mil­i­tary than the next eight nations in the world,” Pres­i­dent Oba­ma notes, going on to praise U.S. troops as “the finest fight­ing force in the world.”

    I believe this will con­rin­ue to com­mit us to fur­ther for­eign wars and nation build­ing boon don­gles! If our expen­sive “finest fight­ing force in the world” keeps los­ing every war since 1945, why is it so good? The tril­lions spent on it would be bet­ter spent on oth­er things. 

    I believe Oba­ma is just repeat­ing the same ol speech they all have BS’s us on. Things are in cri­sis Most every­where and he is not fight­ing back like FDR did.
    As a pro­gres­sive that has seen it all repeat­ed for the last 50 years, noth­ing is chang­ing for we the peo­ple, and he did noth­ing to change that for us while in office. We’re spyed on more than ever and the wealthy are tak­ing every­thing they can get from us! And for­eign wars, pushed by neo­cons are get­ting their way every­where, Oba­ma has not stopped it.
    We the peo­ple will soon have nothing!
