In Brief, NPI’s microblog, turns one

Today marks the one year anniversary of In Brief, the NPI network’s newest project. We launched this microblog a year ago to help us share what we’re reading, bookmarking, and thinking about on a daily basis.

The beauty of a microblog is its simplicity. A micropost can be a paragraph or even sentence. The microblogging platform we’ve been using, Tumblr, allows us to not only post asides (brief observations) but also recommended links, blogworthy quotations, dialogue, and photos or cartoons.

In Brief has admirably filled the gap between The Advocate (where it was formerly a feature becoming a project in its own right) and our Twitter stream, which contains tweets of one hundred and forty characters or less.

In the next year, expect tighter integration between In Brief and The Advocate, as well as a redesign of In Brief itself and more frequent posting.

As always, thanks for reading.
