2022 midterms: Democrats hold U.S. Senate; Republicans capture control of U.S. House

Governorships: Democrats pick up Massachusetts, Arizona, and Maryland; Republicans pick up Nevada; Democrats hold Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin

U.S. Senate: Democrats will have at least fifty seats as Fetterman defeats Oz in Pennsylvania, while Cortez Masto hangs on in Nevada, Hassan and Kelly earn reelection in New Hampshire; Warnock headed to runoff in Georgia

U.S. House: Schrier, Spanberger, Slotkin among Democratic targeted incumbents returning to the House; Luria, Maloney, and O’Halleran among those defeated for reelection in new district configurations, with Republicans projected to have at least 218 seats in 118th Congress

What’s at stake in this election: 2022 is a midterm election year, with contests for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Washington State House, Washington State Senate, Public Utility District, and most county offices in 36 out of 39 counties on the ballot. There is also a special election for Secretary of State. Control of Congress and the legislatures of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho will be determined by the results.
