+ Slow loading (all browsers) Pacific Northwest Portal's front page should normally load in about three seconds with a typical high speed broadband connection (i.e. cable, DSL, or wi-fi - with an average speed of 2 megabits per second). On a dialup connection (56 kilobits per second), the Portal will load in about sixteen seconds. The HTML and graphics on the page take 1.8 seconds to load. The rest of the time is spent loading the feeds (the newswires and the blog headlines). If Pacific Northwest Portal is loading slowly, it's because the feeds are taking longer than usual to load. This can happen when our feed engine is experiencing high usage. However, the feed engine's reliability and stability has been improved, so the site should be load more quickly much more often. Use the contact form above to report problems loading the website.
+ Problems with Mozilla Firefox
Problem: Text appears too small or too large. Text overlaps on Pacific Northwest Portal, or appears tiny, making it extremely hard to view the web page, possibly due to text reducement or enlargement by the browser beyond what the page was designed for. Suggestions: Change the text size in Firefox to Normal by hitting the Ctrl++ or Ctrl+- keys while in your browser.
Problem: Text appears unusually large. Text appears giant and overlaps, making it extremely hard to view the web page, and changing the text size using the Control+- key does not solve the problem. Suggestions: Go to Tools, then click Options. On the left side, ensure the "General" icon is selected. In the "General" window, click the Fonts & Colors button. Inside of this dialog box, check the "Minimum Font Size". Ensure this value is set to None. Then try viewing the portal again.
Problem: Fonts don't display properly. The fonts used by Pacific Northwest Portal are not displayed when viewing in Mozilla Firefox because the "Always use my fonts & colors" option(s) have been enabled. A different font is displayed, thus distorting the web page. Suggestion: Turn this setting off. Click on Tools and then Options. Choose "General" and then "Fonts & Colors". Check to see if the "Always use my..." boxes are checked. If so, click to uncheck them.
+ Problems with Internet Explorer
Problem: Some Feeds Do Not Display. On the Pacific Northwest Portal main page, or on the Expanded Washington/Oregon pages, some blogs' feeds do not display at all, showing empty space instead. This is a Internet Explorer browser problem with the digest feed service and not with the Pacific NW Portal website itself. We are attempting to have the problem solved. Suggestions: Swtich browsers and use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. All feeds should display properly in Mozilla Firefox.
Problem: Overlap. Text overlaps on Pacific Northwest Portal, making it extremely hard to view the web page, possibly due to text enlargement by the browser beyond what the page was designed for. Suggestions: Check Text Size (View menu) and ensure that it is set to Medium. Also check to see that the Garamond and Trebuchet MS fonts are installed on your computer.
Problem: RSS Feeds Appear Larger. The text size on the newswires and RSS feeds appears unusually large, but other text elements appear properly. This problem has been observed in MSN Explorer. Problem has been resolved with the introduction of new CSS code.
+ Problems with Apple's Safari

Text overlaps on Pacific Northwest Portal, or appears tiny, making it extremely hard to view the web page, possibly due to text reducement or enlargement by the browser beyond what the page was designed for. Suggestions: Reduce or enlarge the text size in Safari. To change the text size, click View and then click Text size. Two new buttons will appear next to the refresh button, a small A and a larger A.
