Burger King, Tim Hortons ink merger deal for $12.5 billion

American hamburger chain Burger King and Canadian coffee giant Tim Hortons have agreed to a merger that will place the two firms together as independent and separate brands under the umbrella of a larger parent company, which will be the third largest in the world, after Yum Brands (owner of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Kentucky Fried Chicken) and McDonald’s.
