History made as Pope Francis appoints twenty new cardinals
For the first time in its two-thousand year history, the Catholic Church has more prelates from outside of Europe than inside Europe in the College of Cardinals, after Pope Francis appointed twenty new cardinals from fourteen different countries. Fifteen of them are under eighty and thus eligible to vote for his successor until they age out.
