Having trouble playing NPI audio and video files? Use our troubleshooting guide to help resolve your problem.
Check to see that QuickTime is installed
Check to see that Windows Media Player is installed
Some NPI video clips are offered in Microsoft's Windows Media format. If you can't see or hear video clips in Windows Media format, you may need to download Windows Media Player, or configure the WMP plugin for browsers other than Internet Explorer (i.e. Firefox).
Check to see that you have the latest version of QuickTime
If you already have the Quicktime Player installed, open the player (on Windows, it can usually be accessed by going to Start > Programs), then click Help, then click Check For Quicktime Update. The software will tell you if there is an upgrade available.
Adjust QuickTime settings
If you are still having problems, you may want to adjust your QuickTime settings. Open up QuickTime, then point to the Edit menu. Select Preferences and then QuickTime preferences. Click on the menu tabs to check your settings. On the Browser tab, make sure the "Plays movies automatically" box is checked. Under the File Types tab, make sure the boxes for "Video" and "Audio" are checked as well. Or, at the bottom of the menu, click the "Use Defaults" button. After adjusting settings, click OK for the changes to take effect.
Additional troubleshooting tips
For users of Microsoft Windows, Apple recommends the following:
- Make sure your computer meets the system requirements for QuickTime 7: A Pentium processor-based PC or compatible computer, at least 128 MB of RAM, and Microsoft's Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
- Try running ScanDisk to verify that the directory is OK.
- Make certain you have installed the most recent drivers for your sound and video cards. Even if you have a new computer, you may not have the most recent software installed. Contact the manufacturer of your sound and video cards for additional information.
- Make certain you have installed a recent version of DirectX.
